God of War Laufey Is Getting a $150 Collector's Box, but It Does Not Come With the Game
Sony just revealed the God of War Laufey Collector's Box. It costs $149.99 and includes a light-up Faye statue, an Oracle card deck, and a mini artbook, but not the game. If you want to play God of War Laufey and own the box, you will be buying two separate products. Here is what is inside, what it really costs, and whether it makes sense for you.
Quick Answer: The God of War Laufey Collector's Box costs $149.99 (€149.99 / £129.99) and ships February 16, 2027. It contains a light-up Faye statue, a 51-card Oracle Deck, and a mini artbook. The game is sold separately, so the total is about $219.98 with the $69.99 Standard Edition.

What's Inside the God of War Laufey Collector's Box
According to the official PlayStation Blog post from Santa Monica Studio, the box holds three items:
- Light-up Faye statue: An eight-inch statue of Faye with Phranque and Rue fighting Begtse's soldiers. Phranque lights up when you plug the statue into a USB power source.
- 51-card Oracle Deck: Each card has custom artwork by Megan Lara, and the deck is built around Faye's journey through the Everywhen.
- Physical mini artbook: Concept art of the characters, creatures, and environments, hand-picked by the studio's art team.
The official listing marks the box as "game sold separately." Coverage from outlets like Gagadget also reports that there is no disc and no download code inside. I have not seen Sony explain the decision.
God of War Laufey Collector's Box Price and Release Date
| Region | Recommended price |
| United States | $149.99 |
| Eurozone | €149.99 |
| United Kingdom | £129.99 |
Sony says the box will be available in "highly limited quantities" while supplies last, and it lists February 16, 2027 as the availability date. That is the same day God of War Laufey launches exclusively on PlayStation 5. Store pages can show slightly different dates, so check the date on your region's listing before you order.
How to Pre-Order the Collector's Box
Pre-orders opened on October 13, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. local time. The box is sold exclusively direct from PlayStation, not through general retailers.
- US: through PlayStation Direct, starting at 10:00 a.m. ET.
- Europe: through PlayStation's hardware store pages in the U.K., France, Germany, Austria, Spain, Portugal, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Luxembourg.
Early reports from some outlets said the US listing was not live yet, but the official PlayStation Blog says US pre-orders started the same day. If a listing shows as unavailable or low stock when you check, that matches the "limited quantities" wording.
The Real Cost: Box Plus Game
The $149.99 sticker price is only part of the picture if you want to play too. These totals use official US prices and exclude tax and shipping:
| Bundle | Total |
| Collector's Box + Standard Edition ($69.99) | $219.98 |
| Collector's Box + Digital Deluxe Edition ($79.99) | $229.98 |
If you only want the game, the Standard Edition at $69.99 is the cheaper route, and the box is purely an add-on for fans who want the physical merchandise.
God of War Laufey Editions and Pre-Order Bonuses
Pre-ordering the game itself gets you three bonuses: the Last Wish Armor Set, the Phranque Golden Leaves cosmetic appearance, and an in-game resource pack. Physical Standard Edition buyers get these through a download code, and you need an internet connection and a PlayStation account to redeem it.
The Digital Deluxe Edition adds the following, per the official PlayStation Blog:
- Dark Alchemy Armor Set, Blade, Bow Scales, and Catalyst
- In-game resource pack
- Digital mini artbook
- Official digital soundtrack
The Digital Deluxe digital mini artbook and the Collector's Box physical mini artbook are separate items, so check whether you really want both.
Why Fans Are Comparing It to GTA 6
This is not the first big collector's package to leave out the game. Rockstar's GTA 6 collector's box, the Goodtime State – Vice City Collection, costs $399.99 and ships November 19, 2026, with the game sold separately. Several outlets, including TechRadar, linked the two releases and reported fan frustration online.
The comparison helps explain the reaction, but the two products are not the same:
- Price: Laufey's box is $149.99, versus $399.99 for the GTA 6 collection.
- Contents: Laufey's box is a statue, a card deck, and an artbook, while the GTA 6 collection is a bundle of lifestyle merchandise.
- History: The GTA V Collector's Edition cost $150 and did include the game, while the Red Dead Redemption 2 Collector's Box was $100 and did not.
So collector's boxes without the game are not new, but the trend is getting harder to ignore as the line between "edition" and "merchandise set" blurs.
Is the Collector's Box Worth It?
That depends on what you collect. This is my read, based on the official contents and price, not a hands-on review.
It may be worth it if:
- You are a long-time God of War fan who wants a display piece.
- You like physical artbooks and card decks.
- You are fine buying the game separately, digitally or on disc.
You may want to skip it if:
- You just want to play the game, since the Standard Edition costs less than half the box price.
- You want a traditional collector's edition with the game included.
- You are not sure about paying for a limited item that could sell out.
The context makes this a bigger deal than usual. Sony has said it will stop releasing physical games in 2028, and Santa Monica Studio confirmed Laufey will get a disc version. A physical collectible tied to what Sony has described as the last physical God of War release may appeal to some buyers for that reason alone, though that is a personal judgment, not a prediction of resale value.

Conclusion
The God of War Laufey Collector's Box is a good-looking limited collectible with a real catch: the game is not in it. At $149.99, plus $69.99 or more for the game, you are looking at roughly $220 to $230 before tax and shipping. For fans who want the statue, Oracle Deck, and artbook, that may be fine. For everyone else, the Standard Edition is the simpler purchase.
