Did Rockstar Want Daft Punk to Score GTA 6? What We Know About the Rumor
On October 19, 2026, a music-leak account called Has it Leaked posted something on X that set the GTA 6 community buzzing. The claim: Rockstar Games first pitched Daft Punk a "final comeback" for the GTA 6 soundtrack, and Justice was only the second choice. Justice composing the GTA 6 soundtrack is already official. The Daft Punk part is not.
This post separates what is confirmed from what is a rumor, so you know exactly what to believe before November 19.
Quick Answer: It's an unconfirmed rumor. One leaker says Rockstar pitched Daft Punk a "final comeback" for GTA 6 before going with Justice. Rockstar, Daft Punk's representatives and Justice have not commented. Justice composing the GTA 6 original score is officially confirmed.

What the Rumor Actually Claims
The original post from the @hasitleaked account says Daft Punk's management was pitched a "final comeback" of the duo for the GTA 6 soundtrack, with what it described as an essentially unlimited budget. It adds that Justice were Rockstar's second choice.
That is all the post says. It does not claim Daft Punk turned the offer down, and it does not say why Justice got the job. Some outlets later added that Daft Punk "declined," but that detail is not in the original claim.
The account says it has been sharing information about Daft Punk and Justice for more than a decade. That gives it some credibility in those fan circles, but it is still a single source with no official backing.
What Rockstar Has Confirmed About the GTA 6 Score
Here is what is officially on the record:
- On October 15, 2026, Rockstar released the GTA 6 launch trailer, a 90-second video, and revealed that French electronic duo Justice composed the game's original score.
- Justice's members are Gaspard Augé and Xavier de Rosnay.
- The trailer features "Flower in a Hurricane," a new Justice single with Tame Impala, SZA and King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard.
- The song also appears on Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album, a 34-track soundtrack arriving with the game.
- GTA 6 launches November 19, 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. A PC release has not been announced.
Rockstar has said more details about the score are coming before launch.

The Guy-Manuel Connection on the Album
There is a real Daft Punk link in the GTA 6 music rollout, and it is easy to confuse with the rumor. Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, one half of Daft Punk, produced "RHYNO" by Travis Scott, one of the singles released from the album.
Coverage of the album has been clear that this is not a Daft Punk reunion. It is one producer on one track. Still, it explains why the "Daft Punk x GTA 6" idea feels plausible to many fans.
How the Story Spread (and What Got Added Along the Way)
Within a day, the rumor was picked up by gaming and entertainment sites, including GTA BOOM, Gameranx, Instant Gaming's news section, Glitched Online and Sunday Guardian Live. Russian outlets such as Cybersport.ru and Igromania also ran it.
The tone varied. GTA BOOM treated it as a single unconfirmed claim, and Instant Gaming told readers to take it with a grain of salt. Others leaned into a tidier story where Daft Punk said no and Rockstar moved on to Justice. That version makes for a better headline, but nobody has verified it.
When you read a story like this, check whether the article is describing what the leaker said or filling in details the leaker never gave.
Is the Rumor Believable?
Nobody outside the companies involved can say for sure. A few points help you weigh it.
What works in its favor: The leaker has a long history of posting about both acts. GTA also has a long relationship with electronic music, and previous games have featured Daft Punk, Kavinsky, Aphex Twin and The Chemical Brothers. Rockstar has also spent big on this soundtrack, and Take-Two has described the game's budget in enormous terms.
What works against it: Daft Punk split in February 2021 and have not released music as a duo since. A full reunion for a video game would be a huge story, and a pitch alone proves nothing about what the duo wanted. There is also no second source, and no official comment from Rockstar, Daft Punk's team or Justice.
The fair read is that a pitch is possible but unproven. Treat it as an interesting "what if," not a fact.
Why Justice Is a Strong Fit for GTA 6
Whatever happened behind the scenes, Justice is a natural pick for Vice City. Their sound is aggressive, cinematic and built on heavy electronic textures. They have major credibility: their collaboration "Neverender" with Tame Impala won a Grammy, and their 2024 album Hyperdrama drove a large tour and a Coachella set.
There is also a long shared history. Both duos came out of the French electronic scene, and Ed Banger founder Pedro Winter, who earlier managed Daft Punk, helped build Justice's career. So even in a "Daft Punk first" scenario, choosing Justice would not look like a downgrade. It would look like the next chapter of the same story.
Rockstar also describes the score as dynamic, meaning it is designed to adapt to what you are doing in the game. That is a bigger job than delivering a handful of songs, which suggests Rockstar wanted a partner for the whole project.

Conclusion
The verified story is already a big one. Justice wrote the original score for the biggest game of the decade, a Daft Punk member produced a track on the album, and the full soundtrack arrives November 19. The idea that Rockstar chased a "final comeback" from Daft Punk first is fun to think about, but it comes from one source and has not been confirmed.
Until Rockstar, Daft Punk's team or Justice say something on the record, the safest approach is to enjoy the speculation without treating it as fact. If anything official surfaces, this article will be worth updating.
